I just upgraded to a 29 gal and am trying to add plants, but they won't stay down, and they look like they are rotting at the bottom. What is wrong??? Do I need to drain the tank and start all over? Did I mess something up? I have gravel in the tank and spikes that add food which need to be replaced once a year (haw can you tell I am totallu new at this) after I set up the tank I remembered something about a base under the gravel...oh crap...what have I done??? Please someone help!
Do you know what kind of plants you have?some plants are not supposed to be planted meaning they float or are achored they get most of there nutrience from the water colum, what fertiliser are you useing? In my non-co2 tank I use flourish exel ,this particular product has organic carbon wich plant use similarly to co2.Gravel is ok,sand is much better for roots to get established, plain old peat moss works good as sub layer that both provides and absorbs nutrients for stem plants I use flourish trace elements, you can mix laterite with you substrate,I've heard of useing types of kitty litter with no sent because the clay in it holds nutrients. The sticks or tabs should work just as good except you have to replace them.In addition what kind of lights do you have?the amount of watts, the temperature coler in kelvins (K)photo period are very important. It's not relly that hard you just need a few basics.
